Jun 11, 2012

Dr. Fabio and Dr. Lewis Kuller discuss the Public health ramifications of changes in alcohol related public policy. In November 2011, Washington State endorsed measure 1183, which allowed private parties to sell spirits. One month later House Bill 242 was approved in Pennsylvania, which extended happy hours and allowed alcohol establishments to remain open longer. Today in the US there is a general trend, buoyed by claims of increased economic benefits, to privatize the sale of alcohol in states that currently control the sale. Given the current trend, the need to understand the public health relevance of changes in alcohol policy is very great and immediate.
