William Anderst Awarded a 5 year R01 from the NIH
William Anderst, Assistant Professor and Director, Biodynamics Laboratory in Orthopedic Surgery, was awarded a 5 year R01 from the NIH to conduct a prospective longitudinal study to determine to what extent patient-specific factors, iatrogenic factors, and altered biomechanics affect dynamic cervical spine function following fusion. Patients will be tested prior to surgery, one-year post-surgery, and three years post-surgery. Dr. Anthony Fabio is a Co-Investigator. This prospective study will identify the factors that have the greatest effect on adjacent segment mechanics after cervical fusion. If the hypotheses are confirmed, this will provide support for increased attention to patient-specific factors and surgical technique.
